The Dunbar Tigers will challenge the Babcock Trailblazers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dunbar has given up an average of 18 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Dunbar lost 20-4 to Everglades City on Thursday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Yozeline Garius made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Babcock won against Lehigh on Monday with 21 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Babcock put the hurt on South Fort Myers with a sharp 21-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trailblazers, who have now won four games by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Lexi Haley and Brooklyn Mills made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Haley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Mills tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Haley went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Mills scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That home run marked the first that Haley launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Greenwell, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Emmie Barritt was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Babcock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Babcock and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dunbar, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dunbar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. However, it's not like Babcock struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dunbar suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Babcock when the teams last played back in February. Will Dunbar have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
