Crawfordsville hasn't had much luck against Southmont recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Athenians will square off against the Mounties at 5:30 p.m.
Crawfordsville is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Monday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Bethesda Christian.
Crawfordsville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Martin, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Southmont waltzed into their match on Monday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 20-4 victory. The Mounties might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Kenzie Clate was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Stokes, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kendall Priebe was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Southmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Southmont pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Crawfordsville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Crawfordsville was able to grind out a solid win over Southmont in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 9-6. Will the Athenians repeat their success, or do the Mounties have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
