The Napa Grizzlies will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Rodriguez Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Napa will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Montgomery on Friday. Napa walked away with a 13-8 win over Montgomery.
Izzi Chae and Priscilla Morgado Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Chae tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Morgado Rodriguez tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Chae scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Morgado Rodriguez scored a run while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylia Valentine, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Courtney Mayer, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Rodriguez and American Canyon, and Rodriguez kept the tradition alive. Rodriguez came out on top against American Canyon by a score of 7-2 on Tuesday. Seven seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Angelique Boot spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
On the hitting side, Ellie Steiger was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Skye Aguilar, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Rodriguez now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Napa, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Everything went Napa's way against Rodriguez in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Napa made off with an 11-2 victory. Does Napa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rodriguez turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
