Basketball Recap: Covenant Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Blake Bartow and Ryan Stevens

Covenant Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 73-60 to Rock Springs Christian Academy. Covenant Academy lost against Rock Springs Christian Academy in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 84-44 score last time.

Covenant Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ryan Stevens, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks, and Blake Bartow, who went 7 for 10from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points. Stevens has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of William Wilson, who posted three points.

Rock Springs Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua McDaniel led the charge by putting up 27 points and six steals. That's the most steals McDaniel has posted since back in December of 2023. Jase Nichols was another key player, posting 18 points along with seven boards and six steals.

Covenant Academy's record now sits at 1-5. As for Rock Springs Christian Academy, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Covenant Academy will face off against Central Fellowship Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rock Springs Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 85-38 loss against Furtah Prep on the 10th.
