The Trego Golden Eagles had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They managed a 30-24 victory over Skyline. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Trego also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
It was another big night for Ashton Wynn, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Skyline lost, one person who can't be blamed is Justus Novotny. Despite the final result, he rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 63 receiving yards.
Trego's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Skyline, Ness City, and Stockton. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Trego will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Spearville at 6:00 p.m. As for Skyline, they will head out on the road to face off against Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meade knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Skyline likes a good challenge.
