Sadly, the Smithfield-Selma Spartans are still looking for their first win of the season after 20 games. They took a serious blow against Fike on Monday, falling 51-4. Smithfield-Selma has struggled against Fike recently, as their match on Monday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Jewel Brewington was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points for Fike. Brewington is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Jalia Daniels was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Smithfield-Selma's defeat was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-20. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Fike, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield-Selma will take on C.B. Aycock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last 20 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Fike, they will head out on the road to take on Southern Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern Wayne will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while Fike is ranked 121st).
