The Highland Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Queen Creek Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Highland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Highland faced American Leadership Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Highland walked away with a 21-11 win over American Leadership Academy.
Jay Martin was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Martin is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Katcher Taylor did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 99 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Queen Creek came out on top against Red Mountain on Friday by a score of 45-21 (the very same score they lost by the week prior). The victory was just what Queen Creek needed coming off of a 45-21 defeat in their prior contest.
Queen Creek found their leader in underclassman Tait Reynolds, who rushed for 65 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Lucas George, who gained 96 total yards and two touchdowns.
Highland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Queen Creek, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Highland came up short against Queen Creek when the teams last played back in October of 2020, falling 24-14. Can Highland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
