Danbury is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Darien is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hatters will host the Blue Wave at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Danbury 3.7, Darien 1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Danbury gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Greenwich as they made off with a 12-1 victory.
Abigail O'Dell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit.
At the plate, Sophie O'Connell was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Analia Duran was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Darien and Warde have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Blue Wave walked away with a 5-2 win over the Mustangs. That's two games straight that the Blue Wave have won by exactly three runs.
Vivian Knott made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Claire Willing looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Mia Michaelson was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Darien's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Danbury, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Danbury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Darien struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
