The Capital City Cavaliers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-20 victory over Kirksville. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Capital City also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Capital City found their leader in underclassman Jaylan Thomas, who rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per carry. Thomas was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Evan Schaffer and his 81 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Capital City's win.
Capital City's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB ten times. The heavy lifting was done by Jaelin White and Reyce Turner who racked up 6.5 sacks between them.
When it comes to explaining why Kirksville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ryder Lyons. Despite the final result, he threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Capital City's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Kirksville, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capital City will take on Battle/Columbia Independent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kirksville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Excelsior Springs at 7:00 p.m. Excelsior Springs will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
