After a string of three wins, the Grain Valley Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chillicothe. While losing is never fun, Grain Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Hornets are ranked 15th).
Chillicothe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jolie Bonderer, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bonderer has scored at least a third of Chillicothe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Liz Oliver, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Grain Valley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6. As for Chillicothe, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grain Valley will take on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chillicothe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Smithville will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
