HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - After trading leads three times,
Hendersonville (N.C.) snatched the lead for good when
Grant Rivers ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Thomas Jefferson Academy (Mooresboro, N.C.) 35-21.
The Gryphons pulled ahead on a
Efrim Borders touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-13. The Bearcats scored the winning points with a Rivers touchdown run that came in the third quarter.
Will McCraw played well for Thomas Jefferson Academy. The senior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Hendersonville's most effective player was
Desean Jackson. The senior running back ran for four touchdowns. He has now scored 21 touchdowns on the season.
HHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 56-17.
Hendersonville (9-1) goes up against Polk County in a 2A/1A Western Highlands game matchup next week, while Thomas Jefferson Academy (6-4) locks horns with Owen also in a 2A/1A Western Highlands game.
