The Cumberland Gap Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Cherokee Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Cumberland Gap pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-57 to Pineville. While losing is never fun, Cumberland Gap can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 378th in Tennessee, while Pineville is ranked 131st in Kentucky).
Meanwhile, Cherokee's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They suffered a tough 80-56 loss at the hands of Chuckey-Doak. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Cumberland Gap has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season. As for Cherokee, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11.
Cumberland Gap was dealt a bruising 74-46 loss at the hands of Cherokee in their previous matchup back in January. Can Cumberland Gap avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
