Hobgood Charter has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Columbia Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hobgood Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
Hobgood Charter can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent match. They blew past Mattamuskeet 69-34 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Hobgood Charter has posted yet this season.
It was another big night for Hudson Roberson, who scored 32 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Hobgood Charter's points. Zyhe Higgs was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Columbia pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ocracoke. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (55), Columbia still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ariyeh Spencer, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Sawyer, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Hobgood Charter now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Hobgood Charter have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Columbia struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hobgood Charter came up short against Columbia in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 64-54. Can Hobgood Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
