Richton has been on the road for three straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Petal Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Richton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Richton came up short against Poplarville and fell 35-25.
Richton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Nylah Robins, who scored 12 points, and Kalyjai Bolton who scored 7 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Robins scored a full 48% of Richton's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Petal had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 41-34 win over Laurel. The win was all the more spectacular given Petal's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Laurel is ranked 16th).
Richton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Petal, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Richton beat Petal 52-43 when the teams last played back in November of 2015. Will Richton repeat their success, or does Petal have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
