Wolfe County and Estill County are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Wolfe County Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the Estill County Engineers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wolfe County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Wolfe County fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Powell County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 86-84. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Wolfe County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Corey Flinchum, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Dalton Voils who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Voils has scored all season. Camden Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Estill County's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 74-44 loss at the hands of Hazard. While losing is never fun, Estill County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Hazard is ranked 26th).
Wolfe County now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Estill County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8.
Wolfe County beat Estill County 87-80 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wolfe County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
