Logan Gruber looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on KJ Daniel, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Bryce Nixon was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Hamshire-Fannett beat Shepherd 4-0 last Friday. The win continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.
The result came thanks to Carter Romero's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hamshire-Fannett secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Jacob Grammer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Hargrave's record is now 18-8-2. As for Hamshire-Fannett, their record now sits at 4-15.
Hargrave's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hamshire-Fannett, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hargrave continue to outrun the ball?
Hargrave came out on top in a nail-biter against Hamshire-Fannett in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
