Pendleton Heights hasn't had much luck against Mt. Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Arabians will challenge the Marauders at 6:00 p.m. Pendleton Heights is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Pendleton Heights barely beat Lawrence North the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Arabians blew past the Wildcats 11-1 on Friday. The Arabians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Brayden Stevenson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mazon Saxon, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jackson Grile was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Pendleton Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawrence North only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon didn't have quite enough to beat New Palestine on Wednesday and fell 2-1. The Marauders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mt. Vernon also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Tristan Sitton gave up just two earned runs on two hits and racked up eight Ks. Sitton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Joy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that Joy has scored this season.
Pendleton Heights' victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Pendleton Heights came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Arabians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
