Alameda is 8-2 against Bishop O'Dowd since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hornets will face off against the Dragons at 4:00 p.m. Alameda is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Alameda and San Leandro had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Hornets blew past the Pirates 14-0 on Wednesday. Considering the Hornets have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alameda got a massive performance out of Mia Wong, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Miley Gradney was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Alameda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Wednesday Bishop O'Dowd sidestepped Berkeley for a 2-1 win. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Bishop O'Dowd's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nora Civielli-Sousa, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Alameda's record is now 17-3. As for Bishop O'Dowd, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Bishop O'Dowd's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Alameda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop O'Dowd, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Alameda keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Alameda beat Bishop O'Dowd 4-0 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
