It was a good run, but the McKinleyville Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to St. Bernard 53-47. McKinleyville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as St. Bernard's apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
McKinleyville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nick Maher, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Maher is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Cole Armstrong was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
McKinleyville's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-7. As for St. Bernard's, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKinleyville will face off against Eureka at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eureka and McKinleyville are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for St. Bernard's, they will head out on the road to challenge Sonoma Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
