Softball Recap: Smithfield Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Smithfield had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt North Kingstown on Thursday. The Sentinels never let the Skippers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Mia Howard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Ava Lopez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Smithfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Kingstown only posted a batting average of .222.

Smithfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for North Kingstown, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Smithfield will challenge rival Ponaganset at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, North Kingstown is set to take on their familiar foe Westerly at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
