Amphitheater had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it 14. They lost 20-0 to the Douglas Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-0 on Tuesday.
Amphitheater saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miguel Estrada, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Nic Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Douglas, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-8-1. Considering they have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Douglas' side, Rafael Buzane made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Buzane has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Jose Ivan Higuera and Emiliano Fimbres dominated on the mound. Higuera went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Fimbres went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Higuera has posted since back in March.
Back at the plate, Christopher Escarcega was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Robert Rodriguez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Amphitheater is set to square off against their familiar foe Sahuarita at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Douglas will take on rival Cholla at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
