Mt. St. Michael Academy is 0-2 against St. Peter's since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers will look to defend their home field against the St. Peter's Eagles at 1:00 p.m. Mt. St. Michael Academy will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Mt. St. Michael Academy got themselves on the board against Kennedy Catholic, but Kennedy Catholic never followed suit. They came out on top against the Gaels by a score of 7-0. Given Mt. St. Michael Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 388th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, St. Peter's didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against St. Francis Prep on Sunday, but they still walked away with a 28-22 victory.
St. Peter's' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marco Aruta, who rushed for 136 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Aruta is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Williams, who rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.
Mt. St. Michael Academy's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 Cardinal Spellman and 2-4 Kennedy Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.2% over those games). St. Peter's has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven matchups, giving them a 6-1 record.
Mt. St. Michael Academy might still be hurting after the 42-18 loss they got from St. Peter's in their previous meeting back in October of 2018. Can Mt. St. Michael Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
