The Grantsville Cowboys are taking a road trip to challenge the Bear River Bears at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grantsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Grantsville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Bountiful just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 10-2 to the RedHawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cowboys have suffered since March 7th.
Grantsville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Bytheway, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bear River had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Lions 5-3.
Kate Wilson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Aubree Fry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bella Dougals, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Bear River lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Bear River pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Grantsville, their loss dropped their record down to 19-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Grantsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bear River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Grantsville skirted past Bear River 1-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
