Basketball Recap: West Las Vegas Comes Up Short

West Las Vegas lost against Robertson two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The West Las Vegas Dons received a blow as they fell 65-50 to the Robertson Cardinals. The Dons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why West Las Vegas lost, don't look at Devaughn Kensey. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Kensey is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 46% in the last 24 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Javid Cordova, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, West Las Vegas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Robertson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jesse James Gonzales, who earned 12 points along with six assists and five steals. That's the most steals Gonzales has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of George Smith, who went 9-for-18 to rack up 18 points and three steals.

West Las Vegas' loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Robertson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-4.

West Las Vegas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 94-71 defeat against St. Michael's on the 13th. As for Robertson, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-42 win against Academy for Technology and The Classics on the 13th.
