Baseball Game Preview: Lennard Longhorns vs. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes

The Lennard Longhorns will head out to face off against the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lennard has three straight wins, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Lennard's victory against Spoto wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Longhorns narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Spartans 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted against the Spartans since April 20, 2017.

Christian Skaggs tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Lennard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aj Aikens, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic fell victim to Berkeley Prep and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buccaneers.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic also got a good showing from Cooper Antalek, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Antalek has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Lennard, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.

Lennard was able to grind out a solid victory over Bishop McLaughlin Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
