On Thursday, Shawnee Mission East was able to grind out a solid win over Olathe South, taking the game 3-1.
Shawnee Mission East had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 13-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-16.

Jessie Hill and Adeline Clifford were among the main playmakers for Shawnee Mission East as the former had 14 digs and two aces and the latter had seven digs and five aces. Those five aces gave Clifford a new career-high.
They weren't the only good servers: Shawnee Mission East was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Gardner-Edgerton came up short against Olathe West on Thursday and fell 3-1. The Trailblazers haven't had much luck with the Owls recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Gardner-Edgerton couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Olathe West a tough time in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 29-31, 25-20, 26-24.
Gardner-Edgerton's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Shawnee Mission East, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Shawnee Mission East has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Gardner-Edgerton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.9 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
