The Baxter Springs Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-32 defeat to St. Mary's-Colgan. While losing is never fun, Baxter Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while St. Mary's-Colgan is ranked 61st).
Leading St. Mary's-Colgan to victory were Gus Keller and Jack Schremmer. Keller scored 14 points, while Schremmer scored 16 points. Tristan Voss was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Baxter Springs bumped their record down to 2-3 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Mary's-Colgan, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baxter Springs will take on Columbus at 4:30 p.m. on January 12th. St. Mary's-Colgan won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Humboldt on January 5th. Humboldt will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
