Softball Game Preview: Elmira Falcons vs. Sisters Outlaws

Elmira is 9-1 against Sisters since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Falcons will welcome the Outlaws at 2:00 p.m. One thing working in Elmira's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Elmira faced off against La Pine on Tuesday. The Falcons walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Hawks. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Audrey Varozza made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Varozza was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Burgess, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Emily Weston was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Sisters finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They came up short against Harrisburg, falling 10-0. The Outlaws have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Elmira's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Sisters, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.

Elmira took their victory against Sisters in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 20-1 score. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Outlaws have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
