The Vance County Vipers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to Henderson Collegiate 40-34.
Several Vipers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taeshawn Alston, who scored 8 points.
Henderson Collegiate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Adrian Mayes out in front who scored 13 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mayes has scored at least 25% of Henderson Collegiate's points. Another player making a difference was Nazir Shaw, who scored 10 points.
Vance County's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Henderson Collegiate, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vance County will face off against South Granville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Granville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Vance County in North Carolina (South Granville is ranked 67th, while Vance County is ranked 559th). Henderson Collegiate's road trip will continue as they head out to face J.F. Webb at 7:30 p.m. on December 5th.
