The Princeton Tigers will face off against the Gibson Southern Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Princeton 2.6, Gibson Southern 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Princeton's victory against Tell City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers skirted past the Marksmen 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
The team relied heavily on Conor Marsh, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Jarrett Kinder, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gibson Southern, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against South Spencer on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Titans considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Brogan McClellan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Gibson Southern let Collin Higginbotham and Brayden Campbell run wild. Higginbotham went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Campbell went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Campbell has posted since back in May of 2024. Crewe Hasenour was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Gibson Southern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Spencer only posted a batting average of .222.
Princeton pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Gibson Southern, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Princeton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gibson Southern, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Princeton continue to outrun the ball?
Princeton came out on top in a nail-biter against Gibson Southern in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
