Capistrano Valley is 7-1 against Trabuco Hills since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will welcome the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Capistrano Valley has four straight wins, Trabuco Hills has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Capistrano Valley's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Cypress. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Capistrano Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Talon Spencer out in front who threw for 126 yards and two TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes, and also caught one touchdown. Abel Gherasin was another key rusher, gaining 76 total yards and two touchdowns.
Capistrano Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Evan Eidenmuller and Chris Fields. Another thorn in Cypress' side was Damon Epstein, who picked up a sack, made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, Trabuco Hills played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Tustin 42-14.
Capistrano Valley will have to contain Tristan Zale as he made an impact in Trabuco Hills' last game. He threw for 217 yards and one TD.
Capistrano Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Trabuco Hills, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Capistrano Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 181.4 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Trabuco Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 85.7 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Capistrano Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Trabuco Hills in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 49-41. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
