Barnwell extended their winning streak to 11 on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 16-3 in the process. They blew past the Wagener-Salley War Eagles 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Warhorses, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Laney Grubbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Kendall O'Berry and Tiera Arnold did most of the damage at the plate: O'Berry went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Arnold went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Arnold has posted since back in May of 2024.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Barnwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
As for Wagener-Salley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Wagener-Salley's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylee Hooker gave up four earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. Hooker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Makenley Walling was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barnwell will face off against Branchville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wagener-Salley, they will challenge Williston-Elko at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something the War Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
