The New Oxford Colonials will head out to challenge the Northeastern Bobcats at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. New Oxford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
New Oxford managed to slip by Central York the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Colonials lost 15-5 to the Panthers on Friday.
Aralyn Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeastern). They put the hurt on William Penn with a sharp 19-4 victory on Tuesday. The Bobcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024 (when they won 15-0).
Alaina Dubbs was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Leah Himes, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.
Northeastern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Northeastern's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for New Oxford, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Northeastern's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Oxford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Northeastern, though, as they've only averaged .238. Will they be able to contain New Oxford's hitters?
Everything went New Oxford's way against Northeastern when the teams last played on April 9th, as New Oxford made off with a 17-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonials since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
