The Tocoi Creek Toros will head out on the road to face off against the Coral Gables Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tocoi Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Coral Gables will be up against a hot Tocoi Creek team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Tocoi Creek came out on top against Gulliver Prep by a score of 13-8 on Monday.
Brody Eisenhuth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Chase Pate also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Tocoi Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Coral Gables' found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to South Dade on Thursday. Coral Gables skirted past Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cavaliers have posted since April 24, 2024.
Carlos Torres tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jake Wolfson and Timothy Negron did most of the damage at the plate: Wolfson scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Negron scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brian Santana, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Tocoi Creek's record is now 12-2. As for Coral Gables, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tocoi Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coral Gables struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Tocoi Creek took their victory against Coral Gables when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tocoi Creek since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
