The Ballston Spa Scotties will challenge the Ichabod Crane Riders at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Wednesday, Ballston Spa got the win against Albany by a conclusive 18-2. The Scotties haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Katelyn Weatherwax made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weatherwax was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Madelyn Perrone was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Livia Wiltsie, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Ichabod Crane made easy work of Cohoes on Thursday and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Riders.
Like Ballston Spa, Ichabod Crane also got a great game from a two-way player: Torri Cutler. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Cutler was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abbey Milazzo, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Charlotte Pelizza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Ichabod Crane's win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Ballston Spa, their record now sits at 2-0.
Ballston Spa couldn't quite get it done against Ichabod Crane when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Scotties avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
