Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springstead). They took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 77-38 win over the Citrus Hurricanes. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Springstead had a senior duo take command as Zion McKenzie went 10 of 14 en route to 23 points and six steals and Jamin Pond dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds gave Pond a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Franco, who posted seven points and six assists.
Springstead was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Citrus only racked up nine assists.
Citrus lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Braden Villanueva, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hensley, who put up 11 points.
The victory got Springstead back to even at 5-5. As for Citrus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Springstead wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-47 defeat against Mitchell on the 20th. As for Citrus, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wildwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. One thing working in Wildwood's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
