Liberty's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Olson, who rushed for 168 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. Those 168 rushing yards gave Olson a new career-high. Colt Nolin was in the mix as well, providing Liberty with two TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 304 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 235 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lee's Summit). They blew past North Kansas City 42-21 on Friday.
Lee's Summit's win came from a few key players Liberty will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Preston Hatfield, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Karsten Fiene was another key player, gaining 170 total yards and two touchdowns.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Lee's Summit, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Hatfield, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Liberty's record now sits at 10-1. As for Lee's Summit, their record is now 7-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Liberty has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 282.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lee's Summit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 260.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Liberty beat Lee's Summit 21-13 in their previous meeting back in August. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Hatfield, who rushed for 127 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Blue Jays still be able to contain Hatfield? There's only one way to find out.
