Cumberland and Nottoway are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Cumberland Dukes will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Nottoway Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Cumberland was beaten by Carver College and Career Academy 84-43. Cumberland has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Nottoway is still winless after their match against Amelia County on Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. Nottoway fell just short of Amelia County by a score of 45-43.
Despite the loss, Nottoway had strong showings from Anton Carter Jr., who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Kendreyeus Johnson, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of D'aunte Watson, who scored 3 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals.
Cumberland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Nottoway, the last time they won on the road was back two weeks ago. Having now lost three straight away games, they've bumped their record down to 0-5.
Cumberland might still be hurting after the 65-41 loss they got from Nottoway when the teams last played back in January. Thankfully for Cumberland, David Hamed (who scored 14 points along with 7 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
