The Union Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Union scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Harman 65-16 on the road. Union has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 27 points or more this season.
Chanelle Sutton and Bailey Evans were among the main playmakers for Union as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Evans has scored all season. Brittany Thomas was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Tygarts Valley didn't have too much trouble with Notre Dame at home on Tuesday as they won 54-39.
Summer Lewis-Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailen Yokum, who scored ten points along with four steals.
The victory (which was Union's third in a row) raised their record to 7-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Tygarts Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Union have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Tygarts Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Union came up short against Tygarts Valley when the teams last played last Tuesday, falling 44-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Tygarts Valley's Sarah Defibaugh, who scored 18 points along with four steals and four blocks.
