The Waverly Vikings lost against the Norris Titans back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Waverly took a 55-40 bruising from Norris. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Norris is ranked 13th).
Despite the loss, Waverly still got an impressive performance from Keaton Rine, who scored 15 points. Rine continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Maahs, who scored eight points.
Norris' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Greenfield, who scored 19 points. Greenfield set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Chris Garner Jr., who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Waverly and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for Norris, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Waverly's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hastings at 12:00 p.m. on December 29th. Hastings is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. Norris and Bennington will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at. Bennington will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
