Ganado is on a five-game streak of home losses, Payson a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Ganado Hornets will take on the Payson Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Thursday, Ganado lost to Window Rock on the road by a decisive 62-46 margin. While losing is never fun, Ganado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Window Rock is ranked sixth).
Meanwhile, Payson came up short against Winslow on Friday and fell 48-39.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Lizzy White and Jaci Gonnie. Gonnie had a solid game and scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, White did her best for the losing side, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Ganado has not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season. As for Payson, their loss dropped their record down to 16-12.
Ganado beat Payson 42-30 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Will Ganado repeat their success, or does Payson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
