Jennings hasn't had much luck against Notre Dame recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. Jennings is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Jennings will bounce into Monday's contest after beating St. Edmund, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Fighting Blue Jays 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since March 12th.
Jenna Morvant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emma Kate Mack was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Emma Venable, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Crowley with a sharp 19-2 win. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 23 games by six runs or more this season.
Bella Smith looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Notre Dame got a massive performance out of Kenley Sonnier, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Valerie Brown, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .688. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in ten consecutive matchups.
Jennings is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Notre Dame, they pushed their record up to 26-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Jennings hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. However, it's not like Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jennings might still be hurting after the 11-3 loss they got from Notre Dame in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
