The Water Valley Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Sonora Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Water Valley and six for Sonora.
Last Tuesday, Water Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to Ozona.
Sonora suffered their biggest defeat since December 19, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 76-53 walloping at the hands of Reagan County. Sonora has not had much luck with Reagan County recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Water Valley dropped their record down to 10-16 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Sonora, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.
Water Valley came up short against Sonora in their previous meeting on January 2nd, falling 68-57. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sonora's Juan Castillo, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds.
