Page County had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-15 to make it five. They fell 8-5 to the Luray Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 back in April.

John Leake was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Leake wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Monger, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Luray, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.
Like Page County, Luray also got a great game from a two-way player: Braylon Brooks. On the mound, Brooks tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Connor Hilliard didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Luray is 7-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise. At the plate, Brooks went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Hilliard went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trey Guzy, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gavin Sparks, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Page County will challenge rival Rappahannock County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Luray is set to face off against their familiar foe Central Woodstock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
