The Hawkins Hawks came tearing into Friday's match with 23 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 47-35 win over Ore City. Given Hawkins' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while Ore City is ranked 1489th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brayden Givens was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Paul Smith, who scored 13 points.
Hawkins pushed their record up to 28-1 with that victory, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ore City, their loss dropped their record down to 9-17.
Hawkins will be playing in front of their home fans against Big Sandy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Ore City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
