Softball Recap: Ledford Has No Trouble Against Asheboro

Ledford had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Asheboro on Friday. Ledford put the hurt on Asheboro with a sharp 18-0 victory. Considering the Panthers have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hailey Hoots made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ava Francis and Cassidy Murray did most of the damage at the plate: Francis scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Murray scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Grace Henry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Ledford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asheboro only posted a batting average of .111.

Ledford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Asheboro is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ledford beat Asheboro by a score of 18-0 later that day.
