Magruder and Seneca Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The pair will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
Magruder scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 74-62 victory over Churchill.
Magruder got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Dabbondanza out in front who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerald Suarez, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Seneca Valley has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They came out on top against Richard Montgomery by a score of 74-65 on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Seneca Valley's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Richard Montgomery is ranked 57th).
Korey Trone was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten assists. His trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Bryan Sowell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Magruder's record is now 11-2. As for Seneca Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Magruder hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 61.5 points per game. However, it's not like Seneca Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Magruder couldn't quite finish off Seneca Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 and fell 63-61. Thankfully for Magruder, Bryson Boyd (who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
