Even though the Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool Nighthawks have not done well against the Mission Valley Vikings recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool had just enough and edged the Vikings out 51-48. Winning may never get old, but Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Leading Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool to victory were Sami Baum and Amy Holloway. Baum scored 19 points, while Holloway scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holloway has scored all season. Laurel Schwensen was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Despite the loss, Mission Valley saw an underclassman step up: Kailynn Jacobson scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Jacobson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Packard, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Mission Valley, they dropped their record down to 7-6 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool is on the road again on Monday and plays the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. As for Mission Valley, they will square off against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
