McKinney Christian Academy gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 56-25 victory over the Founders Classical Academy Eagles. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McKinney Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angel Rivera, who rushed for 86 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. Chase Bruegel made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
McKinney Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Bruegel and Dusty Thibodeaux. Bruegel got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Luke Dreffs, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Founders Classical Academy still got an impressive performance from Patrick Harris, who rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McKinney Christian Academy will take on Coram Deo Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Founders Classical Academy, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Bishop Gorman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
