2A Conference 12 recap October 22, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Southern Vance, who took down 73rd ranked South Granville, 22-14. Ty-traveon Roberts threw for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 100 yards in the win.
Bunn added to the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 12 this week by beating Roanoke Rapids, 28-13. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Tommy Evans was the best wideout in the league this week as Bunn beat the Yellowjackets. Evans tallied 2 receptions for 74 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Matt McCutcheon and Sean Bowman, the Vikings have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. McCutcheon is tops in the league in passing with 1,204 yards, while Bowman has rushed for 1,614 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Raiders' Shawn Henderson, with 449 yards on 14 catches.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when South Granville takes on David Howie's team. Mike Hobgood's team's offense has racked up 318 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Wildcats have allowed only 150 on the year.
Roanoke Rapids' De'Juan Walker needs only 8 yards against Franklinton next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Walker has rushed for 992 yards on 123 carries so far this year.
At the moment, the Vikings are in first, while Bunn is in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when South Granville and the Wildcats face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vikings comes in having scored 318 this season, while Bunn has scored 254. South Granville scored 14 points last week as it fell to Southern Vance.
The Rams and Warren County played the closest game in 2A Conference 12 this week, with the Rams eventually emerging with a 34-30 victory.
